🤝Discovery & Social
Browsing, voting, and following are the circulatory system of Cast Away. These features shape who sees what, how the community talks to itself, and how the best casting ideas rise above the noise. Core discovery is free forever, because a platform that paywalls the basic act of exploration isn't really a community. Auteur unlocks unrestricted DMs.
Vote on slates & picks
CinephileAuteur
Bravo (comedy mask) or Boo (tragedy mask) on any slate, and independently on any individual pick within a slate. Votes shape tournament seeding, Discover sorting, and who rises to the top of a film's "top slates" panel. Free and forever — voting is the heart of the community, and there's no version of Cast Away where voting is behind a paywall.
Follow unlimited users (Crew)
CinephileAuteur
Your Crew is who you follow. There's no soft cap or follow-limit gating on the outbound side — every tier can follow as many casters as they want. Follow a caster whose taste resonates with yours and their new work appears in your feed. No paid reach, no algorithmic dampening of non-paying users; if you follow someone, you see what they post.
Discover filters
CinephileAuteur
Browse all slates by film, mode (Timeless vs Current), sort (Hot, Top, Controversial, New), and facets like genre, decade, director, and actor — composable so you can stack "Thrillers from the 1990s directed by women" without an upgrade prompt. Every tier has full Discover access; the filters are the same on free and Auteur.
One-way pull from your public Letterboxd RSS feed. Free accounts get a one-time import at connect, snapshotting your most recent ~50 diary entries and ratings onto your Cast Away profile. Auteur upgrades the integration to ongoing — a cron picks up new logs hourly. Read-only on our side; we never post to your Letterboxd feed at any tier. Letterboxd's RSS doesn't expose watchlists, so watchlist sync isn't shipped yet — when it ships it'll come via the full export ZIP, not RSS.
Free accounts can DM anyone they're mutually following (their Crew) up to about twenty messages per day — plenty for everyday conversation, but rate-limited to keep abuse under control. Auteur removes the Crew restriction (DM anyone on the platform), drops the rate limit, and adds read receipts (the ✓✓ "Read" mark next to your sent messages once the recipient has opened the thread). Report, block, and mute flows ship at every tier; harassment policies apply universally.
